TEE’s Book Review: Cinder

May 12, 2014 by Babita

Last Updated on May 19, 2014 by Babita

Hi everyone, TEE here with my latest review of Cinder by Marissa Meyers. I found this book in my school library and even though I read it few weeks back, I had to wait for all my tests/exams to get over before I could post my review. You cannot believe how excited I am about this book. This book was published in 2012 and had been on New York Times Bestseller list.

Imagine a world where Cinderella is a cyborg. It’s exciting right? “Cinder” is the story of Cinderella re-told, set in New Beijing after World War 4 . She is the best grease-stained cyborg mechanic in town. Cyborgs in this futuristic society are looked down upon and despised by humans. They are not treated as equals. Things take a turn for worse when her step sister Peony contracts the same disease that killed her father. Cinder’s stepmother filled with misery, and desperate for cure for her sick child signs her up for cyborg draft. Though it is considered an honor, no cyborg  has come out alive, but wait for a  surprise here.  Cinder also meets with Prince Kai who shows up to get his android repaired. As she starts to fix it, deadly secrets come pouring out.

My review:

Cinder is one of my favorite Sci-Fi series right now. This book  is part one of The Lunar Chronicles. Author Marissa Meyers creates a world that looks terrifyingly what Earth will be in distant future. The character of Cinder is a strong symbol that prove discrimination of any kind is wrong. The story is complex and unique because the setting is perfect. Overall this book is a must read for kids like me ages 12-17.  It will surely captivate the minds of young sci-fi fans. I would rate this book 4 stars. I personally hope they would make a movie out of it

About the Author: Marissa Meyers lives in Tacoma Washington. This is her first book in The Lunar Chronicles.

This book is definitely not a book for me, but might be up my dad’s alley. I will share this for him. Or actually… His birthday is in 2 months.. You just gave me a great gift idea!

This sounds kind of interesting even for us “older” folks, LOL. I love the book cover too. It is amazing how creative authors are and what type of story lines they can come up with to keep teens interested in reading. I love it.

My oldest is just a little too young for a book like this, but I will have to remember this when he is a bit older. Good job, Tee!
