Recycled Drum Set Annedroid

Celebrating National Recycling Week with Amazon Studio’s Annedroids

November 13, 2014 by Babita

Last Updated on May 25, 2016 by Babita

If you remember, back in August I had written about the kids series “Annedroids” from Amazon Studios. For those of you who are still unfamiliar; here is a brief description. It is a science based adventure series that follows 11-year-old scientist Anne. She is a kid genius who has built her own androids and PAL – who is her Personal Android Lightbot. She along with her friends/assistants Nick and Shania tackle some serious experiments while making scientific discoveries. Created by JJ Johnson, Annedroids was developed to inspire creative thinking and lifelong learning in children. The objective of this series is also to inspire kids through science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) to do amazing things.

Annedroids Series Cast

As a mom of two girls I am always happy when my girls can have examples of strong female characters on TV. In the series Anne and her friends invent unique gadgets with stuff found in her junkyard. In one of the episodes they want to start a garage band. With this episode as our inspiration and since we are celebrating National Recycling Week, ‘S’ and I decided to come up with our own recycling project.

After looking around in our garage and our recycling bin we decided to make a drum set. In my mind I wanted  to use a big box to make two of them. Unfortunately, I was only able to find a small box. However, we decided to make it work. Below you can see the products we used for our project 1) a medium sized hallow box and 2) an empty paint can – we used only the lid of the empty paint can.

Recycling Paint Can

I started off by asking ‘S’ to trace a circle on top of the box using the lid for size.

Once she was done with the tracing I cut out a hole in the box with a box cutter.

‘S’ then placed the lid over the hole and pressed it gently. The lid fit perfectly over the cut out and that made ‘S’ smile.

For me it was enough but ‘S’ wanted more so she decided to paint her new recycled drum. She choose the colors from my painting supplies and colored both the box and the lid. She also placed some stickers over it to make it pretty (her words).

This is what our Recycled Drum looked like after it was all finished.

Recyled Drum Set

Since we did not have a drum stick, I gave her a rolling pin to hit on the drum. She had a blast playing on it. I have to say our project for the National Recycling Week was a huge success.

I love that Amazon is teaching kids how to contribute towards making this earth a better place. It’s an important lesson for the younger generation to learn.

This is a very cute idea. I might have to do this for my son. I think he’d like making his own drum.

Liz, I don’t know if our house is more musical but it is definitely more noisy. I don’t mind as long as she is enjoying herself 🙂
