Chickadees Book

Chickadees, Bumblebeez, Pussy Willow Trees and Two-and-a-Half book review

October 23, 2015 by Babita

Last Updated on October 23, 2015 by Babita

When I received this book for review purpose I was not sure if my little one ‘S’ would like it. She reads a lot and has graduated to reading chapter books. I didn’t think she would enjoy this picture book. I was wrong!

Let me begin by telling you what happened. She came from school and I told her I got a brand new book for her to read. She was excited. However, when she saw the book with its long and weird name Chickadees, Bumbelbeez, Pussy Willow Trees and Two-and-a-Half!, she was not too thrilled. I could she it on her face. Anyway I told her to read it out and use the cliche “don’t judge the book by its cover”.

So after she was done with her homework, she started to read the book. Usually after homework she goes out to play, but she was so engrossed in reading the book, that she did not want to step outside. When she was done with the book, I asked her what she thought. I am quoting her “This is the best book I read. It is so much fun and I am going to read it again”. There you have it. Her verdict was all I needed and sometime last week I started reading this book. I have to say I agree 100% with her.

About the book:

It is an adventure about a brown monkey with olive green eyes, lovely grey cat and the majestic blue pelican. They all set out on a journey to Chickadee Island (near Honolulu in the Pacific Ocean). Although they set out on the journey separately, they meet each other along the way and become friends. They also make other friends. As they explore the foreign island they become curious about the mysterious Chickadees and set out to find them.

My review:

This is a charming and delightful book. The title, which I found, was weird in the beginning started to make sense once I was done reading the book. From a grownup perspective, it took me back to my childhood memories.  This book also made me smile with some of its silly and funny rhyming words such as Punya-Munya and Boingy-Woingy.  The mystery of the Chickadees added a layer of suspense and that too me was exciting and thrilling. The language is easy to read and comprehend even for the youngest of children.  However, the best feature of the book for me was the illustrations. They are big, clear and recognizable. Unlike other picture books, this one has more than forty pages of content including illustrations, which I found would keep the kids reading longer. I personally feel readers of all ages would enjoy this book.

About the Author:

The author Jeffrey M Politsky is a neurologist and epilepsy specialist. He practices in New York and New Jersey. He is currently living in New Jersey with his wife and children. He dedicated this book to his children and the memory of his grandfather.

I know it is still early, but this book will make a perfect gift during the Holidays. This book is recommended for children ages 4 to 9. However I will recommend this book for all ages because I myself enjoyed reading it and felt like I was on my own personal journey. If you wish to learn more about this book and the author you can visit the website here.

If you do purchase the book you will be glad to know that half of the proceeds from sale of each book will be donated to neurocognitive and breast cancer research.

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book complimentary for review purpose. All opinions and thoughts expressed here are honest and my own.

I think picture books are always interesting & they can excite kids to spend more time & read them in one go. I agree the book name is too long & weird, lol, but I think the pictures are good enough to inspire kids to try it out.

You know it’s a good book when they temporarily skip the play to finish it up. 🙂 I’m glad she found one that she really likes.
