Decorative Cord Wrapped Christmas Vases – DIY

December 3, 2018 by Babita

Last Updated on February 3, 2019 by Babita

Decorative Cord Wrapped Christmas Vases project is something I had in my mind for some time. I had these two unique alcohol bottles at home which I did not want to discard and was saving it just in case I needed it for some project. I also have to mention, that I loved their shape.

Crafting with empty wine/alc0hol bottles is nothing new. If you hop on to Pinterest, you will see many such DIY/crafting projects. For this project I knew I wanted cords to decorate the bottles, however, I had to make sure I was not copying any of the Pinterest projects.

So a couple of days back as I was shopping around in Ross, I found these gorgeous holiday themed decorative cords. The minute I saw them,  I knew they would be perfect for the two alcohol bottles I had been saving. So I bought these two different rolls of cords; one was red and bright gold and the other one was pale gold.

Since the project was pretty simple I allowed my little one to help me. She was more than happy to help and could not wait to begin.

The first step obviously was to clean the bottles. You can either pop them in the dishwasher or handwash them with some dishwashing liquid. I rinsed them out in the sink with some dishwashing liquid and made sure all of the alcohol smell was gone. I allowed the bottles to dry out for two days.

Once the bottles were ready, we decided to use the Sake bottle to showcase the instructions for this project. I loved the shape of the bottle and that was one of the reasons I had not discarded it. I asked my daughter to remove the label on the bottle (see pics below).

After a quick wipe,  I instructed her to apply a line of melted glue little below the neck of the bottle. For this project, I used the glue gun, but you can also use E6000 Craft Adhesive. Once she finished applying the glue, she placed the red and gold cord over it and pressed it hard making sure the cord stuck to it.  She continued wrapping the cord all around the bottle until she was done (see pics below).

You can see the end result. For purpose of staging it, I used a mini tree topper. I would have used some fresh flowers if I had or used other fake Christmasy flowers in keeping up with the theme.

We then moved on to the next bottle. For this one, we used the golden cord, which was looked beautiful too. The steps my daughter followed were the same as above. See below for the finished project.

See how beautiful it looks when placed side by side. My daughter could not help bragging to her big sister about how she helped me with the project. She was so proud of her work.
