Englishtown Auction

Englishtown Auction and Flea Market (NJ)

May 4, 2015 by Babita

One of my friend mentioned a flea market close to where we live and we decided to check it out last Saturday. Englishtown Auction actually started out as an auction area and over the years transformed into a Flea Market. The flea market is only open on Saturdays and Sundays from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm.

My friend and I got there early and was able to secure free parking spot. When we got there some vendors were still unpacking their merchandise. It was a beautiful day… not too cold and not too hot. It was a perfect day for bargain hunting.

The Englishtown auction is about 15 mins away from my house, and I could not believe it that I had never heard of it before. It is a huge unpaved, sand lot and if you are planning to visit make sure to wear old and comfortable shoes (they do get dirty). This is also not a place to shop if you are looking for antiques. It is mostly people selling old stuff which they usually want to get rid of. However, there are also booths and stores (indoor and outdoors) that sell new and cheap products like clothing, jewelry, luggage, cell phones accessories, fake designer bags, fake perfumes, electronics, crystals and so on.

I was on look out for one-of-a-kind, small furniture and decorative pieces which I could score for a buck or two with the intention to use it for my DIY projects. I totally underestimated the size of this lot. It was huge and since we did not carry a cart with us, we had to return to our car twice to keep our purchases. Since it was a beautiful day we did not mind all that walking. I also loved haggling with the vendors (it reminded me of shopping in India).

Flea Market Finds

Overall we had a great time. Since the kids were home with our husbands, we were able to shop/look around peacefully. As you can see in the picture above, I bought some fabric, a wooden chair (children’s), two spice racks and some shelving. At the moment I am not sure what and I am going use them for. I also cannot wait to get back and have already started making plans with my other friends to visit again.

Spread the love

I have been there something close to a zillion times. Yes. An entire zillion. 🙂 It’s been there forever, and sometimes I come across really great finds, other times I’m kind of frightened, but either way, it’s always fun in the end.
