Food Truck Festival

Food Truck Festival 2015 – Monmouth Park (NJ)

May 28, 2015 by Babita

Last Updated on May 28, 2015 by Babita

Last weekend we attended the Food Truck Festival in Monmouth Park, NJ. Since this was our first time we did not know what to expect. We reached there around 12.30 pm even though we were stuck in traffic for around 45 minutes. Parking was available — thank goodness for that.

However, even before we reached the venue we realized it was going to be amazingly crowded. There were at least 36 different food trucks offering wide variety of food. My husband and I consider ourselves foodies. In our mind we had everything planned out. We were going to get at least one item from each truck and sample it.

We were so naive. Although it does not look in the picture above, the lines at each of these trucks were so long that they coiled with other lines and intertwined with each other. You did not know where the lines began and where they ended. To make matters worse both TEE and ‘S’ were hungry and getting impatient. Even though this was a family friendly food event, I don’t think we should have taken our kids. There was a lot of waiting. In fact there were many other families who thought the same as they dealt with their own crying kids.

Eventually, we decided to stop at the truck which had the smallest line. It was the one selling fried oreos, zeppole and funnel cake. TEE was over the top excited, but I wanted real lunch.

While my girls and I waited in line for our fried Oreos, my husband stood in line at the Paella truck. That was a smart move. By the time we got our fried Oreos and Zeppoles we joined him. TEE enjoyed her fried oreos while the rest of us made do with the Zeppoles and lemonade.

Zeppoles, I think is fried dough. Well we were hungry and it did not disappoint.

Finally after waiting for about 15 minutes we got our hands on some seafood paella. We found a shaded spot and began tearing into it. The paella was delicious. The rice and all the seafood was perfectly cooked and seasoned.

By now the girls had mellowed down and ‘S’ decides she is still not done. She wants ice-cream. Even the line at this truck were long. My husband cannot say no to her, so we wait in line. Another 10 minutes and we finally have our ice cream in hand.

The weather was beautiful that day and we did manage to have a wonderful time. We are planning to do check out this event again next year. By that time we will be well prepared.

Spread the love

I know around here we get a few carts that do cook meals or fried dough and other things, but none like those.

I love when we have the food truck festivals in our area. It is such a great way to try many different kinds of foods. Luckily we have a few that stay in the same area here, I am addicted to a couple different ones.

Well – this does sound fun – and I could see that you would have to be more prepared! Long lines when you’re hungry can get frustrating – but what great food choices you had – and those Zeppoles look extra good!

There’s a local food truck festival once a month here. I really should go check it out. The food sounds amazing. The only time I’ve gone is with my husband. Smart move for next time.

Wow, so much food and too many people, LOL! They need to sell tickets to that event and space out when people can come. I hate waiting in line for food also but it looks like the end results were delicious.

I have always wanted to go to a food truck festival but haven’t had the chance yet. They have a few of them every year in my state and I really should make the time to check one out. I love how food trucks have become the new fast food for people. It’s really grown a lot of businesses that couldn’t have otherwise started a brick and mortar location too.
