Fried Plantain Chips

How to Make Fried Plantain Chips

February 21, 2016 by Babita

Last Updated on February 25, 2016 by Babita

Once you make these Fried Plantain Chips you will be tempted to make them all the time. The fact that it is homemade and does not contain any kind of chemicals or preservatives makes them all the more appetizing. Although plantains are not my favorite I love to make chips.

They are really easy to make and does not require much effort or ingredients. The main ingredient obviously is the plantain. If you don’t know what a plantain is check out this article on Wikepedia (click here).

The great thing is plantains are available year round. I bought these from ShopRite, but they are available in almost all stores including Indian and Asian. When you buy them make sure the skin is green and not black. Black means that it is old. Also if you do buy plantains and don’t plan to use them in a day or two then refrigerate it. Otherwise, they will ripen and that is not good because it kind of becomes inedible.

Anyway check out the recipe below and try to make it yourself. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

Fried Plantain Chips

Ingredients

2-4 Plantains
oil for frying
salt as per taste

For preparations check out short video below:

Useful Suggestions:

  • You can use either vegetable of canola oil to fry these chips. You can also use authentic and organic coconut oil which will give it a unique aroma and flavor.
  • If you want you can season the chips more with some black pepper or red chili powder. Just sprinkle it after you have drained it on a paper towel.

Spread the love

I love fried plantain chips. I used to eat them a lot when I worked in the city. It’s hard to find them since moving so far away. May have to give this a try!

My grandmother would make fried plantains for us when we were little kids and we loved it so much! It was such a nice, tasty snack. Thank you for this post. You made memories of my childhood come flooding back. Good times!

I LOVE plantains! Where we used to live, our neighbors had an actual plantain tree, so I guess that’s how I became a fan. I will try this recipe, thank you!

My son in law makes plantain chips a lot. They are great on their own or with a little guacamole or salsa.
