How to Make Ribbon Earrings

March 26, 2013 by Babita

It is Spring break, that means the girls are at home the whole day for a whole week. To keep them entertained and away from iPad and iPhone, I thought it would be great to make something that is easy, quick and fun. As I was not in the mood to do any shopping, I decided to make something with the supplies that were already there in my supply bin. I have tons of ribbons lying around and after a little bit of brain racking I decided to make earrings out of them. Check out below if you wish to make some ribbon earrings for yourself.

To begin with, I measured and cut out two strips of ribbons around 6″ in length.

For the purpose of this tutorial I used black thread but if you are making these earrings then do remember to use matching threads. I sewed a running stitched along one of the edges of the ribbon.

Once I was finished with the sewing, I pulled the thread to gather the ribbon.

After a bit of manipulation and some more pulling, I formed it into a floral shape. With the same thread I sewed couple of stitches in the center to secure it.

I then sewed a button in the center and glued a silver stud over the button.

To make it all neat and pretty, I cut out small blue felt circles and glued them on the back. Finally I added some earring hooks and the ribbon earrings were all ready for use.

Since I had so much fun doing this project, I went ahead and made two more pairs. Although I was happy with these earrings, I genuinely wish I had some grown-up patterned ribbons with me. The earrings would look really weird on me. On the other hand I think it is perfect for “T”. What do you think???

Kristi and Cynthia, my older one loves to show off our collaborations at her school. She is already planning to make some for her friends during summer.
