Hilton Minneapolis Night View

I Would Stay in Hilton Minneapolis Again

April 1, 2015 by Babita

Last Updated on April 1, 2015 by Babita

Couple of days back I had the opportunity to visit Minneapolis. TEE my older one and five other kids had been selected to represent their school at the OAKE National Choir Conference. This one was a huge deal for her and I was very proud of her achievement. Hilton Minneapolis was the official hotel for this event. Since my daughter, her teachers and other students and accompanying parents were booked at this hotel, I thought it would be better to stay in the same hotel. We were there from March 18th to March 22nd and I have to say we had a great time.

We reached Hilton Minneapolis at around 12.00 noon. While checking in the I was surprised to hear that my room as well as our whole group’s rooms were available for early check in. That was a big relief, I thought we would have to wait until 3.00 pm (the official check-in time), but we were spared that. This was in the Hotel lobby as soon as we entered which I thought was nice and appropriate for the event.

All the kids rooms were on the 16th floor. The parents requested for our rooms to also be on the 16th floor. The Front Desk receptionist was very accommodating. She tried her best to accommodate all the adults rooms on the same floor. Unfortunately for me and one other parent, she could not do it as rest of the rooms on that floor were already taken.  However, she did place us on the 15th floor, which I was glad because it was not very far from our kids rooms.

As we exited the elevators and walked towards my room, I made sure to grab a shot of the hallway. It looked dated but was very clean.

I reserved my room through AAA (obviously for the discount). At the time of the booking, I was under the impression that I was getting a standard room with one king bed. When I opened the door I was again pleasantly surprised to find two queen beds. As you can see I made myself at home immediately. Just hopped over the bed cause I was so tired.

Being on the 15th floor meant I had a gorgeous view of Downtown Minneapolis.  As I checked out the view I made sure to take a shot and text it to my DH.

For lunch we checked out their SkyWater Restaurant inside the Hotel. The waiter was very patient and answered all our questions as well as gave us our separate checks. I ordered the Creamy Wild Rice Soup. The prices were steep, but I realized later; this being in the Downtown all the restaurants were expensive.

All in all I had a pleasant stay at Hilton Minneapolis. The staff was courteous and accommodating. The rooms were clean and pleasant. So was the bathroom. The housekeeping staff did their jobs perfectly. In fact during one of the days when I returned back to my room for a nap housekeeping staff was not done cleaning my room. Before she let me in she asked me for my room key and checked it on the door to see if this was really my room. I was super impressed by this.

Now for the not so great things about Hilton Minneapolis. The rooms were pricey. I was also disappointed that it did not have free Wi-Fi in the rooms. Free internet was available but that was in the lobby and there was no privacy and was limited to 15 minutes. As a blogger, I found it extremely frustrating without free Wi-Fi in my room. Paying for it was not an option for me ($19.95 per day). The other thing was there was no complimentary breakfast.  It would have been great for the kids as they had to be at rehearsals at 8.00 am. Instead we had to wake up really early, go outside and hunt for other breakfast options. This was an inconvenience we had to deal with everyday we were there.

As you can see I survived not having complimentary breakfast and free Wi-Fi. Would I recommend this hotel to others, absolutely yes. I personally would stay over there again, but would definitely plead for free Wi-Fi 🙂

Thanks Hilton MN for that wonderful news. I still think free Wi-Fi should be available to all guests regardless of their membership.

I am surprised when hotels do not have free WiFi now days. Even the small hotels in the town back in rural Wisconsin where my parents live offers free WiFi.

Other than that, this looks like a wonderful place to stay. I fly into the Twin Cities several times a year to visit family, so I will have to remember this.

We shop for our hotel stay based on complimentary breakfast. We have 3 kids and ourselves and we figure that the costs of hotels can be high and breakfast is SO inexpensive to provide, they should provide it.

We do the same Aimee. Whenever we go on a family trip, I make sure to book hotels only if they are offering complimentary breakfast. I feel it is one meal, we would not have to worry about first thing in the morning.

What a lovely sounding hotel – I have to admit we don’t seem to get free wifi much here but I do like to grab access, I’m no good if I can’t check my emails.

It looks like a lovely hotel. I stayed in a Hilton last month and was very impressed as well. I guess they have their good reputation for a reason 🙂
