Chanel’s Indian-Inspired Pre-Fall 2012 Collection

December 8, 2011 by Babita

Last Updated on December 8, 2011 by Babita

India is calling and Western designers are scrambling to tap into the budding emerging  market. The latest to join this craze is Parisian design house Chanel. Check out Chanel’s Indian-Inspired Pre-Fall 2012 runaway show.

The only thing I would like to nitpick about this collection is that it is too literal. In his statement to WWD Karl Lagerfeld said “that inspired as he was by India, he had never actually been to the subcontinent. It’s the Paris version of the idea of India. It’s not a trip for documentation.” I personally think it is time for the Paris version of India to change. India is more than rajas, maharajas, palaces, turbans & elephants. Though it makes me extremely happy to see a gorgeous and well thought out collection like this, I personally feel western designers should draw inspiration from real India and not the India you would read about in books from the 50s and 60s.

What do you think??

Also check out the glimpses of the actual work that went into creating these one of a kind couture looks
