TEE’s Book Review – If I Stay

August 11, 2014 by Babita

Last Updated on August 11, 2014 by Babita

Hi Everyone, TEE here with another book review. 🙂 My school starts in 3 weeks and I am really not looking forward to it.(I mean, who wants to start doing schoolwork – again?) I’m having an awesome summer since I have so much time to read! I found out about this book “If I Stay” by Gayle Forman from a couple of friends. Don’t get me wrong; they were praising it left and right, so I had to read it.

If I Stay

This beautiful life-changing novel is about a young teenage girl name Mia. On a snowy day in Oregon Mia’s life changes for the worse. A four-ton pick-up truck crashes into her family car. Her parents are killed and she and her brother are rushed into the E.R. Mia ends up in a coma. While her body is in a comatose state, her mind – or her being – is aware of things happening around her. As she thinks of her past, she has to make a choice whether she should stay alive or chose death and join her parents.

I loved “If I Stay” because it felt very real. The beginning of this booked lured me in from the first sentence. I liked how the mood of the story changed from comedic in the first chapter to dead serious. It radiated suspense and that is just the way I like it. Even though this booked gripped me in the beginning, the middle part of the story which is Mia’s life before the car crash was boring for me. I felt it should have been compact and to the point. The figurative language the author Gayle Forman uses is amazing. I just wish she had sped up the story.

Other than that this book is a must read. As I am writing this review, I am so tempted to reveal the ending but I am not going to do that and use your reader’s intuition. You have to read it to find out.

They also have the movie version of If I Stay coming out on August 22nd, 2014. As someone who loves to read, I would advice you to read this book before you plan to see the movie. You can check out the trailer below.

Spread the love

I love reading books before I actually see the movie so would have to do this for this book. I do think it’s going to be a great movie though from the trailer.

Ooh, this book looks so good. I love to read, but we’re getting ready to move so I haven’t had much time to read this summer.

What a deep novel. I am not sure if I could handle that. Sounds like a good book- but not for those of us that are just looking for a lighthearted read:)

I love when books are made into movies. It’s a great way to compare the similarities and differences between the two.

It sounds great, but I’m afraid I would get too emotional with the crash. I experienced a crash myself and ended up in a coma for 8 days… I’ll have my friend read it first and we’ll go from there 🙂

I am so sorry you were involved in a car crash and were in a coma. I am sure this post must have been emotional one for you.

I haven’t heard of “If I Stay” before, sounds like a really good read, I’ll have to check it out and then go see the movie once I’m done. August 22 is my daughters birthday, maybe she will want to come with me.

I seriously love a good book. However, I cannot stand when a book takes forever to get to the point. I lose interest quick and can’t read them! I’ll have to take a look at this movie though!
