Carrom Nok Hockey

Have a Fun Time with Carrom Nok Hockey and #UnPlugwithCarrom

September 19, 2014 by Babita

Last Updated on September 22, 2014 by Babita

I would like to extend my gratitude to Carrom for the Carrom Nok Hockey game and sponsoring this post.

Did you know October 16th is National Unplug night? Well it was news to me, but I cannot say how delighted I am to hear that. I think we as a family could greatly benefit from it. My DH and I are on our Laptop/computer most of the time. Even when we are watching TV, we are browsing, surfing, working and blogging. As for my girls, if I am not watching them, then they will definitely try to sneak our phone or the iPad.

So recently when I was offered the opportunity to #UnPlugwithCarrom with their Carrom Nok Hockey game for review purpose, I was more than happy to oblige. I had never heard of this game or even seen it before. When I received the package, I did not open it immediately. I made TEE and ‘S’ wait for it, sweat it out and build up some suspense.

Finally when I did open the package, we were all thoroughly surprised. The Carrom Nok Hockey was a large size game that included a wooden board, two plastic hockey sticks and two pucks. It is a tabletop board which measures approx. 35” L x 23” W and 1.8” H. and weighs around 8 lbs.

Carrom Nok Hockey

Obviously my girls were not familiar with this game. I remember TEE saying something about it being “old-fashioned”. There was however  a paper with small list of instructions. After reading the instructions TEE and ‘S’ started playing and I have to say they were enjoying it a lot. Actually there were times when I had to tell them to stop playing because it was getting noisy.

Playing Carrom Nok Hockey

Few days later we had a terrible thunderstorm in NJ. Our neighborhood and others close by lost their power. This happened during the evening time. We spent as much time as we could outside. Eventually we had to come in. The reality of having no power, no internet, no gadgets etc was too upsetting for the girls. ‘S’ however was unfazed and asked me if she could play the Carrom Nok Hockey. So we kind of had our #UnPlugwithCarrom that night and that too by the candlelight. The girls were thrilled and had the time of their life.

My review:

The wooden board is very well built. I was impressed with its structure. It was sturdy and fit perfectly over our breakfast table, which I have to say, is of the perfect height for both my girls now. The plastic sticks are a bit flimsy and I am not sure if they will last long. Carrom is know for their quality wooden board games, so I am not sure why they opted for the plastic sticks instead of wooden ones. The circular pucks are solid wood and do move smoothly over the board.

The instructions mentioned waxing the board before use for faster and smoother movement of the puck. I wish they would have included a small sample of the wax. I tried to look up what kind of wax was required but could not find any information on their website. Anyway we went ahead and used it without any wax. I don’t know if I was missing something, but it would have been great if the wax was included.

Overall I am very happy with this Carrom Nok Hockey game. It gives our kids a reason to play and have fun the old fashioned way. I have to mention this, that this game is perfect for adults too. You can find Carrom Nok Hockey and other wooden board game at Carrom (Click Here).

That looks like so much fun! My kids love to play air hockey but we don’t have room for a table. But they could play this on the kitchen table easily.

I love in-house days, although the kids don’t. I’ve never seen a board quite like this one. I will have to look into this for our stuck at home days!

It certainly brings back memories of my childhood and the 60s and 70s. How much fun we had with no computers and only a few channels on TV.

I am all for becoming unplugged before we become unhinged and getting back to some basic games like this. Looks like a lot of fun.

This game looks like a lot of fun! Bummer that they did not include a sample of the wax. I’m sure that would have really helped.

My boys would totally love it too. We definitely need to unplug, something is always running in our house. If it’s not the computer its the TV which seems to be on ALL the time. I have to tell them to go outside just to have fun.

My boys would love this and we are getting ready to set up a game room so this is perfect. I did not know about unplug night, but we unplug every night. One thing my husband and I both stress is no electronic devices until after the kids go to bed.

Luckily if the sticks go, there are replacements that can be found/improvised fairly easily. I like that the base is sturdy, and this is something my kids would like too. Maybe for Christmas…because I know they like a big gift to be under the tree for them too.
