How to Make Spicy Chaat Masala Fries at Home

Spicy Chaat Masala Fries

Have you ever made Spicy Chaat Masala Fries? If not, now is the time.

How to Make Spicy Chaat Masala Fries

Chaat Masala (powder) is a combination of spices which include powdered cumin, coriander, dry mango chili, ginger, pomegranate seeds, black pepper, asafeotida, ajwain (bishop’s weed), salt and black salt. It has a salty, tangy, spicy and pungent taste. For some it could be an acquired taste, however it is very popular in many regions of India. It is used to season certain dishes — mostly savory snacks. I personally like to sprinkle a dash of it over watermelon, pineapple and mango to add a layer of tangy and salty flavor. It also goes really well with raw or grilled veggies.

How to make Spicy Chaat Masala Fries?

Well, It is pretty easy and you need only a handful of ingredients. This recipe is an improvised version of fries. Instead of only seasoning the fries with salt, I have used chaat masala and chili powder to give it an additional kick of flavor. I have also changed the cooking process to create crispy yet softer fries (something I saw on Food Network). Check out the recipe below and Enjoy!

How to Make Spicy Chaat Masala Fries at Home

Ingredients:

2 medium russet potatoes
3/4 tsp chaat masala
salt as per taste
oil for frying as well as coating the fries
chili powder as per taste.

Preparations:

  • Cut the potatoes lengthwise into 1/2″ thick fries.
  • Rinse and pat them dry with some paper towels.
  • In a bowl add chaat masala, 2 tbsp of oil and mix it well. Toss in the potatoes and stir until all them have been evenly coated with the spice mixture.
  • Spread the potatoes on a baking sheet in a single layer.
  • Bake it for 10 mins at 425°.
  • While it is baking, heat oil in a frying pan or a kadhai
  • Once the oil has heated, deep fry the potatoes until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the fries from oil and add it into a mixing bowl.
  • Sprinkle some more chaat masala, salt and chili powder over the fries. Toss and stir it properly before serving.
  • Serve hot with some ketchup.
